The safest starting point is always the shoe manufacturer’s care label. A washing bag can keep each shoe contained, but it cannot make every material machine washable.
1. Read the care label
Confirm that the shoes can be machine washed. Do not machine wash leather, suede, delicate trim or loose ornaments unless the manufacturer explicitly permits it.
2. Prepare the pair
Remove laces and insoles if you prefer. This is recommended, not required. Brush away loose debris when useful, without treating that step as a product requirement.
3. Keep the shoes separated
Place one shoe in each bag and close both drawstrings. Two separate bags reduce direct shoe-to-shoe contact during the wash.
4. Follow the shoe instructions
Choose the cycle, water temperature and detergent specified for the shoes. The washing bag does not replace the shoe maker’s care instructions.
5. Dry only when permitted
If the care label permits low-heat drying, remove the bag’s cord locks first. No universal dryer temperature or time applies to every shoe.
